Court upholds Andy Uba’s election
From TONY JOHN, Port Harcourt
A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has ordered the recognition of the Ejike Oguebego-led factional executive of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State.
The court also gave an order that the parties in the matter should maintain the status quo, pending the determination of the case, and to comply with the earlier ruling of a High Court in Awka, Anambra State, delivered on May 31.
Justice H. A. Nganjiwa gave the ruling yesterday, after hearing the motion on interlocutory injunction in Suit No. FHC/PH/CS/213/2013, between Ejike Oguebego, chairman, PDP, Anambra State; Chief Gilbert Okoye, secretary, PDP and Chuks Okoye, legal adviser, PDP, who were the applicants/plaintiffs, and the PDP, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and two others, as defendants/respondents.
Justice Nganjiwa ordered that the first and second defendants should recognise and deal with the plaintiffs pending the determination of the suit.
He adjourned the matter till Thursday, September 19 for mention.
The Oguebego factional executive elected Senator Andy Uba, at its primary, as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for November election, while the other group, led by Ken Emeakayi elected Chief Tony Nwoye, as its flag bearer.
