Al-Mustapha, freedom fighters storm Imo, Anambra
From CHIDI NNADI and EMMA UZOR, Owerri
Freed Chief Security Officer of the late head of state, General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha yesterday stormed Imo and Anambra states with a good number of freedom fighters in the country in a visit that may help entrench lasting peace .
Mustapha had specifically come to confer with the leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike and some selected traditional rulers in the two states.
This was the continuation of Mustapha’s nationwide visits to the leaders of the people in all the zones in the country after he was freed by an Appeal Court in Lagos from the alleged murder of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, wife of the late acclaimed winner of the June 12, 2003 presidential election.
The former chief security officer arrived in a private jet at the Sam Mbakwe Airport, Owerri by 10:45a.m where he was received by his host, Chief Uwazuruike, traditional rulers from the South-East and thousands of MASSOB members.
Al-Mustapha was accompanied by his wife, Abacha’s son, Mohammed; leader of Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Dr. Federick Fasheun; leader of the Niger Delta Frontier Force, Alhaji Asari Dokubo; President, Arewa Youths Forum, Shettima Yerima and the former All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship candidate in Abia State, Ochiagha Ufomba, among others.
On arrival, Uwazuruike led them out of the airport where Mustapha acknowledged cheers from the crowd before their convoy left for Nri by 11a.m.
When they arrived at Nri  at about 1p.m.,  Obidigwu Onyesoh, Eze Nri Ewelana 11 and his palace chiefs received Mustapha and the freedom fighters by giving them the traditional white chalk to draw the line of peace.
With the traditional welcome ceremonies over, Eze Onyesoh urged militant groups in the country to embrace peace and shun acts of violence to foster unity in the country.
