Martins, spoke through the Episcopal Vicar, Badagry Region, Very Rev. Eddie Hartnett during his pastoral visit to Saints Joachim and Anne Catholic church, Ijegun, Ikoton, Lagos.
” I think the church is a great blessings to the society, it is that family that reforms, without the church, the country would have gone worse, “he said.
According to him, the church is doing a lot in meeting the challenges of the day, we might not be able to change the country without changing ourselves.
” We might not be able to change Nigeria, but we can change ourselves, we can’t change the world without changing ourselves.
” If we want to see Nigeria peaceful, be peaceful yourself, if you want to hear the truth from the government, tell the truth yourself.
” If you want a country that would be just, be just yourself, if you want a country that would share the resources of Nigeria together, we too have to be generous.
He added that “we are generous but selfishness is not far from us, when we begin to change our lives for the better, we too would have effect in the society.
” The future is in the hands of God and in our own hands but together, we can move the nation forward,” he said,
Speaking on insecurity, he said it was not peculiar to Nigeria alone, adding that though the recent insecurity was a threat, everyone must cooperate
“We also are responsible for security, we all voted for the government, so we too must play our part, we should advice the government.
“To make our country a safe place for our children and for ourselves, we must play our part, no one can replace the government of a country.
According to him, we also are responsible in maintaining security in our place of work, the market, the schools, the place of work.
The Archbishop noted that, insecurity was not helped by people who talk loosely, nor those who put out stories that are not helpful.
” We must encourage one another, everything begins with ourselves, the country is made up of individuals and not animals,” he said.
