President Goodluck Jonathan has confirmed that he will pick the nomination form to formally express his interest to run for the presidential election next year before the October 30 deadline given by his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh had said that 6p. m. October 30 was the closing date for the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms, warning that the deadline would not be extended by a minute. At a meeting held Thursday afternoon at House 7 of the Presidential Villa and presided over by President Jonathan, a committee to work on his presidential declaration was set up.
The committee is headed by acting PDP Chairman and former Minister of Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed.
Members representing the zones are South South (6), South East (5), South West (5), FCT (1), North West (5), North East (6) and North Central (6).
The committee is to work on and choose a convenient date for Jonathan’s declaration between November 7 to 15 .
One of those who attended the meeting but pleaded anonymity listed other members of the team to include Ken Namani (Deputy Chairman), Enugu, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim (Secretary), Ebonyi, Prof. Rufa’i Ahmed Alkali (member), Gombe, Jude Imagwe, SSA, Youth (member), Edo, and Dr. Baraka Sani (SSA-NSAP), Kano (member).
Governors representing the zones are Liyel Imoke, Cross River (South South), Theodore Orji, Abia (South East), Olusegun Mimiko, Ondo (South West), Dr. Babangida Aliyu, Niger (North Central), Ibrahim Shema, Katsina (North West) and Ibrahim Dankwambo, Gombe (North East).
Representatives of the National Assembly are Senator Hosea Agbola (Oyo), Senator Ahmed Makarfi (Kaduna), Bitrus Kaze (Plateau) and Salmas Badru (Ogun).
Those representing the Federal Executive Council are Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Dieziani Allison-Madueke (Bayelsa), Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Abduljelili Adesiyan (Osun), Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Zainab Maina (Adamawa), and Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Mohammed (Bauchi).
Peoples Democratic Party executive is represented by Deputy National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus (Rivers), Benue State Chapter Chairman, Chief Emmanuel Egbo (Benue) National Woman Leader, Kema Chikwe (Imo) and North West Zonal Chairman, Amb. Ibrahim Kazaure (Jigawa).
Representatives of members of the party are Senator Stella Omu (Delta), Senator Walid Jibirin, BOT Secretary, (Nasarawa), Ibrahim Bunu (Borno), Rev. Jolly Nyame (Taraba), Senator Aneta Okon (Akwa Ibom), Peter Obi (Anambra), Mrs. Remi Bakare (Lagos), and Gen. A. B. Mamman (PDP National Youth Leader) – FCT.
Others appointed at presidential discretion are Halima Alfa (Kogi), Nigeria Ambassador to the Netherlands, Dr. (Mrs.) Nimota Nihinlola Akanbi (Kwara), FCT ALGON Chairman, Micah Jiba (FCT) and Sam Ikon (Akwa Ibom).
