Four policemen attached to Osun State Police Command were yesterday shot dead by gunmen at Benin, Edo State on their way to Anambra State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Daily Sun gathered that over 500 policemen from the Osun State Police Command drafted to Anambra for the governorship election were ambushed by gunmen suspected to be armed robbers along the busy Benin Road.
During the attack, four policemen lost their lives when the gunmen, ambushed them and opened fire on them, resulting in the death of four defenseless police officers among the team.
Though the Osun State Police Command could not confirm the incident as at the time of filing this report, Daily Sun gathered that the four policemen that lost their lives were hit by the bullets from the armed robbers who were alleged to have taken the policemen by surprise.
It was gathered that over five state police commands had been drafted to the state to maintain law and order while Osun police command recorded the worst casualty.
When contacted, the Anmabra State Police Public Relations Officer, Emeka Chukwuemeka said he had not received official report on the incident and promised to get back to our reporter.
