Family seeks N5m for 10-year-old boy with heart condition
For Adeyemi Samson Iseoluwa to live like a normal human being again, the young boy needs the sum of N5million naira for an urgent heart surgery. The10-year-old boy has lived the better part of his life in pains and agony following a sudden complication he developed when he was just three years old.Since he clocked three in August 2007, Adeyemi, who lived with his parents at Oluode Aranyin area of Osogbo, the Osun State capital, developed some complications. After the necessary medical tests, it was discovered that the young boy was suffering from heart related problems which would require surgery.
According to the Echocardiography report given at the Biket Medical Centre, Osogbo by Dr A D Adenle, a copy of which was given to our correspondent, Adeyemi had part of his left ventricular heart damaged, hence his inability to breathe normally.
The report reads in part: “There is situs solitus and atrio-ventricular concordance but ventriculo-arterial discordance. The mitral, tricuspid and aortic valves are normal. The pulmonary valves are slightly thickened. The left atrium, left ventricle and right ventricle are of normal internal dimensions. The right atrium is slightly dilated and there are clots within the right atrium. There is right ventricular hypertrophy.”
“The left ventricular wall thickness is normal and the left ventricular systolic pump function is good. The great arteries are parallel with the aorta lying anteriorly and the pulmonary artery posteriorly (transposition of the great vessels). There is a large membranous ventricular septal defect with a diameter of 1.0cm. There is no pericardial effusion. There is no atrial septal defect and there is no patent ductus arteriosus.”
Adeyemi’s parents, who are both Christian clerics in Osogbo, said their son has lost his strength as a result of the sickness and had been lying in hospital for close to a year since they lacked the resources to take care of him. The mother said that the drugs he takes daily costs as much as N4,000, a situation which, according to her, had made life unbearable for the parents.
Specifically, the mother of the young Adeyemi, Mrs. Janet Adeyemi, the Resident Prophetess at the Ire Akari Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Oluode, Osogbo said they had prayed and fasted to heal the boy of his strange sickness to no avail, hence the resolve of the family to give him medical attention at the hospital.
She said the boy was initially admitted at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Osogbo before she was referred to Biket Medical Centre, also in Osogbo, from where he was now referred to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH), Ile-Ife for surgery to be carried out on him.
Mrs. Adeyemi, who lamented that the family had sold all that they had to save the life of their son, explained: “We have borrowed money from all manners of people. In fact, there is nowhere we have not been in search of financial assistance to save the life of this promising young boy. We know he has a glorious future and that is why the devil wants to snatch him away from us.
“We have been battling with this problem since 2007 when the boy was just three years old. Later he recovered from the problem and he was admitted in the primary school. After a while the problem returned and since that time, we have been battling with the problem. He cannot eat well like every other children of his age.
“At 10, my son is still in Primary Two. This is as a result of his ill health. Otherwise, he would have been in secondary school by now, because all his age mates are already in the secondary school. We don’t want the boy to die. We want him to live in good health. That is why we are running here and there to save his life from untimely death.”
She called on well meaning Nigerians, especially philanthropists and non-governmental organisations to rescue her daughter through financial donations.
An account in the name of Adeyemi Samson has been opened for the boy at First Bank. The account number is 3087347772.
